Did You Know?

This picture on the front of page of the New York Times grabbed my attention yesterday:
An artificial heart just approved by the FDA to be implanted in the human body.  Although the recipients have so far not lived more than 5 months it would seem only a matter of time until this contraption of plastic and valves pumps blood and keeps people alive.

And I thought...how interesting, this completely foreign object in the body of humans and yet, what about compassion, does this heart come with compassion?  But of course, no, we have to do that, each one of us, everyday.  We practice caring for ourselves, accepting ourselves, and then accepting and loving others.  What a wild world we live in with these great jumping advances in technology while at the same time, it's all the same, cultivating compassion for thousands of years.

Meta's Message

Okay sometimes I read and I laugh out loud (lol) and I have to share it with you.

From the NYT, 9/6/06, page A5, there was an article about the new anchor, Rosie O'Donnell on the TV show The View.  For those of you who don't know, the show consists of a panel of woman talking and interviewing guests.  One of the panelists is Elisabeth Hasslebeck.  Here's the excerpt (by Alessandra Stanley):

When Elisabeth Hasslebeck, the Zeppo Marx of the foursome, said she donned a bathing suit to take a bath with her baby daughter, Ms. O'Donnell went wide-eyed at her prudery and recalled that when she took a more natural bath with her daughter, the child asked, "When do I get my fur?"

With smiles, laughs, and always deep gratitude for you, the community of YogaNow,

Meta.

(Namaste in devanagari script-“I bow to you.”)

YogaNow Teacher Training
Apprentice Program

Yoga is a way of life. It incorporates philosophy, ways of being, and ways of conducting ourselves. Yoga provides an approach to facing challenges in the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual arenas in which we all work and play. To be a yoga teacher is to be in the process of uncovering our unique gifts so that we can share them with others.

How Do We Learn to Teach Yoga?

First, it is important to realize that while you can begin to learn to teach yoga, you can never finish learning to teach yoga. Learning yoga is a lifelong endeavor, and learning to be a teacher of the simultaneously ancient and contemporary art of yoga requires a commitment to the lifelong learning process.

Ultimately we learn to teach yoga by living our lives with meaning and mindfulness, as well as with compassion and love. But what about the specifics of yoga practice? How do we learn the details of alignment, the art of connection and communication, the pacing and sequencing of teaching a class? How do we begin to tap into the ancient wisdom and texts of yoga?

YogaNow offers a unique course of study incorporating a wide variety of instructional approaches:

§    Reading and discussion of the great texts and commentaries

§    Journaling and written responses to assignments

§    Lectures with written materials including poses and homework

§    Viewing engaging and lively DVDs and CDs from around the yoga world

§    Teaching practice within class setting (see photo)

§    Opportunities for volunteer teaching as community service

Fall Session begins October 1st, 2006 to be a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) 200 hr through the Registered Yoga School (RYS) YogaNow.
