Look at me! Look at me! Look at me now.
It’s fun to have fun, but you have
to know how!

A word from
This is a
period of birthdays for me – my father turned 80 last month and I turn 50
next. My dad, Harry Hirschl, stood up at
our celebration and said he wanted to quote his favorite philosopher, Dr.
Seuss. He then read the lines at the top
from The Cat in the Hat, part of our
family experience. Having fun does seem
to be the key, yes?
I’ve been
contemplating how to celebrate, mark my ˝ century and it came to me one night…rather
than explore the external (was thinking of hiking the Grand Canyon, going for a
kayaking adventure) I decided to dive into the final frontier – the mind. So, partly from the inspiration of the documentary
mention above, Doing Time, Doing Vipassana,
I signed up for the classical 10 day Vipasssana
retreat – no talking, no reading, no writing, no yoga. Just meditate from 4 am til
after night fall. I’ll be going on the
retreat in March and will let you know then who all my subs will be, but in the
meantime the anticipation is sweet – tho I know the
sitting may well be the biggest challenge of them all, perhaps topping my 40th
celebration, running the big sur marathon.
I send you
all wishes for delicious moments strung together on the thread of the breath,
In peace,
With many
smiles,
