Our duty, as men and women, is to proceed as if limits to our ability did not exist. We are collaborators in creation.

Did You Know?

THIS Saturday is our celebration of the holidays with the 108 sun salutation PARTY.  We hope you can come and enjoy the good cheer and community and yoga for others.

Did you ever wonder why 108?  Why is this a sacred number in yoga and other traditions?  Many answers to this question and many will be listed at the event Saturday, but here are a few:
Sanskrit alphabet: There are 54 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. Each has masculine and feminine, shiva and shakti. 54 times 2 is 108.
Astrology: There are 12 constellations, and 9 arc segments called namshas or chandrakalas. 9 times 12 equals 108. Chandra is moon, and kalas are the divisions within a whole.
Sun and Earth: The diameter of the Sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth. The distance from the Sun to the Earth is 108 times the diameter of the Sun.
Pranayama: If one is able to be so calm in meditation as to have only 108 breaths in a day, enlightenment will come.

Meta's Message

Energy is eternal delight.
-William Blake

Energy is what we have, and we have the good fortune to practice yoga and be alive in a world of possibilities.

A YogaNow yogi said to me recently that she has removed her "Busy Badge", that self-description many of us get caught up in. "How are you?" "Oh, I'm so busy."  Why do we define ourselves by activity?  I've decided to take off the Busy Badge.  It's not as easy as I thought, I catch myself using the B word more than I'd have guessed.  But it's quite a creative act I think to describe ourselves, to ourselves and others, in a way that truly matches our passion and desire, and yes, energy expenditure.

I wish you the most satisfying holiday season ever. Please accept the new 2007 YogaNow calendars as a gift to you!

With smiles, much gratitude, and warm energy,

Meta.

(Namaste in devanagari script-“I bow to you.”)

Celebrate the Holidays, in a new way…

108 Sun Salutations...drop in and do as many salutations as you can, perhaps lead a set of 10, come and eat, drink and be merry with friends, children, non-yogis, all are welcome.  All proceeds will go directly to S.A.F.E. House (www.safehousenm.org) where 60% of the residents are children.

Pay $20 at the door…and check out  the wish list at the studios and bring your donations.

THIS is an opportunity to shift the idea of parties to mean...helping yourself with sun salutations, helping others through raising money for S.A.F.E House, coming together with friends and enjoying food and drink and music on a Saturday afternoon...what could be better?

We are family.
