Did You Know?

A YogaNow yogi is part of an organizing effort for the Cradle Project (thecradleproject.org), January 26, 6-11 pm at The Factory on 5th (1715  5th St NW), that's tomorrow!  An evening of Art, Entertainment, Fund-Raising, and Dancing.  The Cradle Project is an installation designed to represent the plight of the estimated 48 million children who have been orphaned by disease and poverty in sub-Saharan Africa.

And what about the American Hero, Wesley Autrey (pix to the right from the New York Times)?  If you haven't heard about it:  Mr. Autrey, 50 yrs old, a construction worker and Navy veteran, lept in front of a subway train throwing his body on top of a stranger's to save him as a train passed overhead.  He rescued a man who suffered a seizure and fell in the tracks.  Our hero left his daughters, 4 and 6 yrs old, on the platform, to save another's life.  Only his hat was harmed.

Now that's some inspiring and good news.  Who among us would do the same?

Meta's Message

One is not wise

because one speaks much.

He who is peaceable, friendly and fearless

is called wise.

Dhammapada 258

You may wonder how a person such as myself can quote the Buddha (above in Dhammapada) about not speaking much, as I'm someone who so obviously loves to talk!  One of the many unexpected gifts of the recovery process I've been involved in is that I honestly didn't want to talk much of the time.  I was busy trying to stay soft inside and process the body signals.  And actually, it was fascinating.  Often just listening, watching, smiling (if possible) was plenty of communication.

Happily I'm feeling much better and appreciate all the warm well wishes from you.  And even though I've definitely "found my voice" again, I hold dear the quiet and the option of using the other senses, especially now, the sense of smell!

I offer you the idea of trying on the idea of listening more, talking less, and smiling TONS more!

Many many wishes for connection to ourselves and others,

Meta.
